The official taking over of the duties, the Honorary Consul of Finland, Mr. Akis Dimitriadis and the country’s 100 years of independence, were celebrated last night at a reception held at the “Rodos Palace” Hotel.
The event was attended by Ambassador Juha Pyykko as well as the Consul General of Finland in Athens Mrs Paivi Harju-Heikkila
During his speech, the Honorary Consul of Finland, Akis Dimitriadis, referred to the close ties between the two countries, pointing out that Finland won its independence in December 1917 and a month later Greece was among the first countries to recognize it As an independent state.
Mr. Dimitriadis added that he aims to further develop relations between Rhodes and Finland, something that Ambassador Juha Pyykko has agreed to take the floor later
The Finnish Ambassador spoke with enthusiasm about the culture and the character of the Greeks, which, as he said, is attracting the inhabitants of their country to visit our island.

Στην εκδήλωση ήταν παρόντες ο πρέσβης κ. Juha Pyykko καθώς και η γενική πρόξενος της Φινλανδίας στην Αθήνα Paivi Harju-Heikkila
Κατά την ομιλία του ο επίτιμος Πρόξενος της Φινλανδίας κ. Άκης Δημητριάδης αναφέρθηκε στους στενούς δεσμούς που συνδέουν τις δύο χώρες, επισημαίνοντας μάλιστα πως η Φινλανδία κέρδισε την ανεξαρτησία της τον Δεκέμβριο του 1917 και ένα μήνα αργότερα η Ελλάδα ήταν μεταξύ των πρώτων χωρών που την αναγνώρισε ως ανεξάρτητο κράτος.
Ο κ. Δημητριάδης πρόσθεσε ότι στοχεύει στην επιπλέον ανάπτυξη των σχέσεων μεταξύ Ρόδου και Φινλανδίας, κάτι που και ο Πρέσβης κ. Juha Pyykko συμφώνησε παίρνοντας στη συνέχεια το λόγο
Ο Φινλανδός Πρέσβης μίλησε με ενθουσιασμό για την κουλτούρα και το χαρακτήρα των ελλήνων, στοιχεία που όπως είπε ελκύουν τους κατοίκους της χώρας τους ώστε να επισκεφθούν το νησί μας.
